Although we closed the Rip Curl Planet foundation last year, we have continued our support thanks to the new Rip Curl Planet Fund. More than $US570,000 was given to protect our spots – from the mountains to the sea.
The Rip Curl Planet Fund (RCPF) is serving one main mission: support the protection of breaks that are key to surfing around the world. The RCPF structure is also used by Rip Curl Europe for its regional environmental partnership policy, which is supports environmental preservation, education projects in Europe (oceans and mountains), and humanitarian projects.
Using Rip Curl’s experience with the WWF and the Surfrider Foundation, and to benefit from the French law on tax credits, the RCPF is a France-based organisation, operating under the new legal status of “fonds de dotation”. Its two legal founders are Rip Curl Europe and the Surfrider Foundation Europe. Following legal requirements, it is run by a Board.
We propose a new program focused on preserving waves worldwide from multiple threats:
- Direct chronicle threats (water or sediments pollution and erosion)
- Direct immediate threats (coastal and urban development such as sea walls, jetties, dredging, harbour extension, freeways, condo, and pipe leaks).
The RCPF helps support actions of environmental associations with grants, promotions, awareness education, and fundraising events. The dedicated staff will ensure strong links between “Save Our Surf” actions and Rip Curl, through participation of Rip Curl team riders, Rip Curl events and the Rip Curl Planet website.
We continue to keep in mind all the education projects in Europe (oceans and mountains) and humanitarian projects all over the world.
